Despite being much-maligned for the nature of his departure from East End Park in 1994, George O`Boyle was a hugely talented player. George started as a striker with Distillery in his native Northern Ireland, but, still a teenager, moved to Bordeaux.

Dunfermline`s connections with the French club allowed him to transfer for £250,000 in 1989. George`s time at Dunfermline was plagued by injury but he did get international recognition with two caps. He also scored four goals in his parting match against Clyde - something of a bittersweet pill for Pars fans who had often felt they hadn`t seen the best of him.

He moved to St Johnstone for £200,000 but his Premier career was later to be cut short dramatically amid allegations of drug taking.
